by Susan Milligan and Louise Rogers.
Pre K-Gr. 2 learn through play. These stories join jazz basics, like scat and rhythm patterns, to story-telling in playful accessible ways.
Each jazzy story has a full complement of activities and discussion starters. Melody lines are included. CD has words and melodies for listening, learning, and singing.
The activities provided may be used as a supplement to an existing program or to provide a ready-made, easy-to-use, all-encompassing music curriculum. The Appendix includes music theory terms, jazz terminology, standard blues form, and notation (melody with chords) for most of the themes and songs.
Paperback & CD
In Three Jazzy Pigs the first song is Piggy Feet Hop.
The catchy beat helps the words and movement come alive.
Bop Boo Bop
Bop Boo Bay
Piggy feet hop
Piggy feet play.
Round and round and round we go
Boppity bippity ho ho ho
Another is the Miss My Mama Blues, which is repetitive blues and also allows the opportunity to talk about feelings. Of course, you can act out the story, too, in a performance for class or parents. Other versions of the story are listed to encourage the kids to add their own jazzy input.
