EMOJIs are a fun way to help kids learn how to recognize and express emotions. Emojis support Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in the classroom and beyond!
Use them to identify major/minor and moods in music, have kids use their faces to recreate emojis, imagine what sound each emoji would make, or think of descriptive words to match their expressions. Match them to Italian terms to explore tone color. Listen to classics and ask kids to show with an EMOJI how the music makes them feel.
Sing a familiar song and change the feeling by asking a child to choose an EMOJI. The class then sings it with that feeling. This is one way to introduce composing/arranging, since a composer has to choose a feeling/style for his work.
